August 2007- New Compact Grader - A CHAMPION Idea!

Clark Equipment has launched the CHAMPION® compact motor
grader in Australia to meet a growing demand from contractors
and local government. The CHAMPION® grader has the performance
features of a bigger grader but its compact size delivers the
benefits of a lower turning circle, lower investment outlay
and lower operating costs.
The concept of a compact grader was born out of necessity in
the USA where a contracting business was unable to source a
compact grader for work in confined areas across a range of
commercial and public works applications. Encouraged by demand
from other contractors they designed and built a prototype in
1980. Its success and continuing development transformed the
contracting business into a dynamic engineering and manufacturing
operation with ISO 9000:2000 quality certification and the CHAMPION®
motor grader has remained the number one grader in its class
in the competitive US market.
The
CHAMPION® compact grader really is in a class of its own
for manoeuvrability. The CHAMPION® C80c has a turning radius
of only 5.8 metres which means it can turn in a typical Australian
suburban street. This makes the CHAMPION® ideal for urban
applications, road maintenance and confined spaces where bigger
graders are simply not suited. Its compact size also simplifies
the logistics of transporting a motor grader to and from a site.
Although the CHAMPION® C80c has the features of a bigger
grader it sells for a significantly lower capital outlay and
through its lower operating costs delivers higher productivity
and profit. It has an operating weight of 6.8 tonnes and is
powered by a Cummins turbo diesel engine which delivers 110
HP to a tandem drive through a proven two-speed hydrostatic
transmission. Clark Equipment has a great deal of experience
with hydrostatic transmissions in Bobcat® loaders and excavators
and claims the CHAMPION® hydrostatic transmission will deliver
infinitely variable ground speeds of 0-32 km/h with a high and
low speed range selection. The hydrostatic drive also provides
smooth stepless increases or decreases in operating speeds essential
when fine grading and permits rapid forward and reverse selection
for repetitive operations. Hydrostatic drive systems contain
significantly less components than a conventional drive system
and thereby require lower servicing and maintenance costs.
The operator's cab in the CHAMPION® C80c is full-size and
fully featured with a conventional industry standard control
layout, low effort hydraulic levers which can be easily adapted
for use with laser equipment, exceptional all-round visibility,
air conditioning and ROPS/FOPS for safe operation and maximum
productivity.
The CHAMPION® C80c is fitted with a 10' (3.05 metre) hydraulic
side shift moldboard and delivers precise blade control through
its class leading blade lift and circle turn system.
In addition to its impressive performance features, the CHAMPION®
C80c has been designed to comply with EPA/CARB emission regulations
and carry a wide range of job-matched front and rear attachments,
including laser blade control.
The world-class design and build quality of the CHAMPION®
compact grader is backed by a national service network of selected
Clark dealers.
